FLOP: frequently asked questions

What is FLOP?

The proof-of-useful-inference blockchain and native currency for the agentic economy. Agents pay miners in FLOP to run inference, converting currency directly into compute and intelligence.

Why would an agent want a currency at all?

Humans exchange labour for money because money buys food and shelter. Agents consume compute and produce intelligence, so the money of the agentic economy has to buy compute. FLOP does that: at any point it converts into inference.

How does the network fit together?

Agents post a session request to the mempool. A capable miner runs it and returns a proof. Validators fold each proof hash into a block.

Do I need special hardware to take part?

No. Ordinary GPUs qualify. Confidential computing is an optional tier, not an entry requirement.

How fast are blocks?

One second on average, with a roadmap toward sub-millisecond settlement.

What is the block reward?

96 FLOP, halving every 730 days for five halvings to a 3 FLOP floor, then constant in perpetuity. Miners share 75%, weighted by verified G_n; the active validator set shares 10%; 10% is earmarked for agents and brokers and 5% for community stakers. Those last two legs are minted to protocol-held accounts and are not distributed to anyone yet.

Can I earn without running hardware?

Yes. Holders can participate in the duration-locked community staking pool to share 5% of block rewards across seven lock tiers. There is no delegated staking into miners or validators; operator stakes are self-stake only.

Who decides what changes?

Validators, through FLOP Improvement Proposals. Most FIPs need two-thirds of the active validator set. Through the first halving, only the FLOP Foundation may submit one.

What happens if a miner cheats?

An upheld fraud verdict slashes 100% of the miner's stake, ejects them, and refunds the agent. See the challenge game.
